New CSE support email address
The email address used for contacting the CSE system administrator has changed. Please do not send messages to sysadm@cse.unt.edu anymore.

The new address is csesupport@unt.edu. This is the address you should use to request support with the CSP machines and anything else IT-related in the Computer Science and Engineering department.

Quotas on CSE Unix accounts
It came to our attention recently that many CSE student accounts were inadvertently generated without any file quotas. We have just finished setting a quota on all student accounts which had none. The standard quota for student accounts is 64 megabytes. If your account was created without a quota and you have more than 64 MB worth of data, you will need to delete some files. You can check your quota by running the ‘quota’ command on the CSP machines. If you have any questions, drop us a line at sysadm [at] cse [dot] unt [dot] edu.

Free Ubuntu CDs
    Attention students---

We have a limited number of Ubuntu CDs to give away in Research Park F208. If you'd like a copy, come by and grab one. We have versions for regular x86 PCs, 64-bit PCs, and PowerPC-based Macs. This is the latest release, version 6.06 LTS, which came out June 1st.

Ubuntu is a user-friendly Linux distribution based on Debian Linux. For more information, visit their website:

CSP security measures
In an effort to protect against brute-force SSH attacks, we have implemented a new security feature on the CSP machines. After a number of repeated unsuccessful SSH login attempts are detected, the CSP machines will block further ssh attempts from the originating host.

If you are being blocked, you will receive this error message with PuTTY: “server unexpectedly closed network connection” or this message with OpenSSH: “ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host”. If this happens to you, simply try connecting to a different CSP machine. However, if you continue to get locked out, you are either typing your password wrong or there is a problem with authentication on the CSP machines and you should contact us.

CSP02
CSP02 has been rebuilt and is back online now. The SSH host key has changed, so you will get a warning/error message about it when you try to connect.
